6/26 Party – What are we celebrating?

We’re having an end-of-season party at 5 Napkin Burger on Wednesday, June 26th from 5:30-8:30pm (GET YOUR TICKETS).

We have a lot of reasons to celebrate. Here are a few (in no particular order):

#1  – APAC started the year by accepting the 2012 Caffe Cino Fellowship from the New York Innovative Theatre Awards. Kleban Award-winner Matt Schatz wrote an APAC Theme song for the occasion (Sample lyric: “We’re a theater community, not the other way around…”).

#2 – We went to summer camp twice! In August, APAC offered Summer Stars – our free musical theatre program for kids 8-13- for the 10th year in a row! The Stars’ original musical was titled “Hullabaloo at Camp Nadalottamoolah.” We went to a very, very different camp when we brought the premiere of Billy Witch by Gregory Moss to our mainstage. Hurricane Sandy hit during tech week, but with above-and-beyond commitment from director Erik Pearson and the cast and staff, we were able to open Billy Witch.

#3 – We want to celebrate Board President Regina Cialone Alaimo’s 10 years of devoted service to APAC. She has been a consistent champion as APAC has grown and evolved. At the end of the season, she’ll be leaving the Board, but she’ll forever be a member of the APAC family.

#4 – APAC was selected as a winner in the We Heart Astoria 2013 Best of Astoria Reader Favorites Awards in the category of “Favorite Place to see Live Theater”, and was also runner up in the category of “Favorite local nonprofit arts organization”!

#5 – Executive Director Taryn Sacramone was honored by Senator Michael Gianaris at the New York Senate 2013 Women of Distinction Ceremony in Albany, and was also an honoree at the The Queens Courier’s 11th Annual Top Women in Business Awards & Networking event in May.

#6 – We want to celebrate Jenny Lane’s invaluable contributions to APAC as our first Literary Manager! She joined our staff in 2011 and read over 200 submissions in her first year alone. Jenny is leaving APAC and moving to California. Before she goes, we want to raise a glass to her!

#7 – We reunited friends to make this video.

#8 – Our Gala honoring Assembly Member Aravella Simotas and Principal Donna Finn was a success! (And Astoria legend Tony Bennett was there to celebrate with us!)

#9- APAC produced the world premiere staged reading of a new Galt MacDermot musical Gone Tomoro (book by Timothy Murphy).

#10 – Blood Brothers brought sold-out audiences, including out-of-staters who traveled to NYC just to see it, and tourists from New Zealand and England.  Reviews were great as well! Many of the people who we worked with contributed to a blog about their experiences.

#11 – We added Box Office Manager Heesuk Chae to our staff!

#12 – Concessions have never been yummier. “With Love, Irene” made us our very own s’mores cookies (inspired by Billy Witch) and Whole Foods sponsored concessions at Blood Brothers.

#13 – APAC Staff member Raven Pease and her husband Brian Voelcker brought little Flint into the world.
