Awesome Stories by Kids

Each year, we bring two rounds of an after school playwriting program to Horace Greeley Intermediate School (IS10). During each round, a group of 10-12 students learn to write plays over the course of six weeks. At the end of each round, APAC produces a staged reading of the students’ original works by professional actors and directors. This Wednesday at IS10, we will present plays from our first round – a show that the students themselves titled, “Awesome Stories by Kids.” The show is free and open to the public. APAC’s Marketing Manager, Dave Charest, is producing it. He brought together a fantastic group of actors and directors to bring the students’ plays to life. Some of the actors have been in APAC mainstage productions, and others are new friends. It was incredibly fun to watch rehearsals yesterday. The actors and directors are really excited, and so are we. The students won’t see the performances until show day, when they’ll each take their turn sitting in a big “Writer’s Chair” onstage. The fun of the show is watching what talented people can bring to wildly creative material and watching the students as they watch the actors.
