Casting By the Numbers

Tomorrow we get under way with casting for our first mainstage of the year – The Cottage.  Casting is the first time a director will see these actors bring the script to life – these same actors will embody characters in front of an audience in just under two months.  Leading up this endeavor is Wojcik Seay casting.  Casting Director, Scott Wojcik took a moment to share with us his perspective of the next couple weeks.

There are 6 roles in APAC’s upcoming production of the world premiere of “The Cottage” by Sandy Rustin.  We are conducting a total of 11 and a half hours of auditions and based on that timeline can probably see about 100 actors total.  The creative team:  Artistic Director, Director, Writer and Casting all have requests and ideas of who they want to come in for an audition…so that leaves us about 60 available auditions slots to schedule from the submissions of both actors directly sending in their material as well as the agents who send in submissions of their best suited clients…we have received over 1,500 submissions to consider for those remaining spots…welcome to casting!!!!!

While the math of this seems daunting the actual process of casting for APAC is always nothing short of joyous.  The overwhelming number of submissions has set us up for a great round of auditions that are sure to guarantee the highest caliber of talent that will bring “The Cottage” to life later this Fall.
