Recommended Restaurant: Sweet Afton

As we come into the first days of Spring and the Spring Mainstage, Allegro, is right around the corner, we wanted to take the opportunity to tell you about one of the favorites on the Recommended Restaurant List. Jenny Lando took a moment to let us know about Sweet Afton.

sweetafton1Sweet Afton had barely opened their doors in  2010 when a strong love of their beer battered fried pickles filled hearts and stomachs around Astoria. Now, 2014, and they continue to have a strong presence with a simple menu that pairs nicely with both their beer and cocktail offerings.

If it is your first visit, and if you are a carnivore, we suggest you look no further than the first menu item : SWEET AFTON BURGER Served on Country White Bun w/ Lettuce, Tomato, Onions &
Brooklyn Pickles
IMAG0792Described by an eater as “scrumptious” the burger is firm and juicy, perfectly formed and balanced by crisp lettuce and a ripe-as-can-be-expected-in-February ginormous slice of tomato, with tartness added by thin slices of pickles.
If you are just a bit hungrier add cheese ( Gruyère works well) or even slices of double smoked bacon. (see photo) Want to spice it up?  Ask for a side of their Chipotle mayo.
A pint of Abita Amber pairs well with these choices.
The ambience is also perfect for merely sipping cocktails or getting a pint and a portion of beer battered pickles.
Whatever you choose, Sweet Afton is only a short walk from APAC and is open both before and after all our performances.  And on Mondays, when our stage is dark, they have live music.
