2019 Gala
"Adventurous theater in Astoria"

-- The New York Times

LeadingLadiesWebsiteCover-01

This season, APAC is telling the stories of dynamic female characters — from the scientists at the center of Queen to the titular mother and domestic worker at the heart of Caroline, or Change. Fittingly, our 2019 Gala will be a celebration of the wonderful women who have helped make APAC the organization it is today.

This year we’re delighted to be honoring three Leading Ladies from our community of supporters, friends, and volunteers — Tracy Capune, Lynn Lobell, and Carole Tosiello all of whom have contributed greatly to our work over the years. The evening will also include performances from some of our favorite actors, who will be singing the songs of Jeanine Tesori, the Tony-winning composer of Caroline, or Change.

We hope you will join us for this festive and fun celebration. Come raise a glass and help us honor our fabulous Leading Ladies!

OUR LEADING LADIES

tracy capune

Tracy Capune, a veteran urban planner and economic development consultant, is Vice President of Kaufman Astoria Studios. Capune oversaw Kaufman Astoria Studio’s expansion plans that have made it one of the largest and most sophisticated film and television production facilities on the East Coast while managing other initiatives that generate economic growth in western Queens. In 2014, she spearheaded the successful effort for the City Council to designate a 24-block area surrounding the studio as the “Kaufman Arts District” as a way to promote emerging artists and the area’s cultural institutions including the Museum of the Moving Image, the Queens Council on the Arts, the Frank Sinatra School of the Arts, and Astoria Performing Arts Center. Ms. Capune serves on the Boards of Directors of the Queens Economic Development Corporation, Queens Theatre, RIOULT Dance, the Chocolate Factory Theatre and the Kaufman Arts District.

PhotoLynn Lobell has served the Queens arts community for almost 20 years where she was the Queens Arts Fund Grants and Resource Director and Managing Director for the Queens Council on the Arts. Over the years, Lynn has worked with thousands of Queens-based, emerging artists and arts organizations to help guide them through the “business of art.” Her guidance helped develop the Queens arts community into the burgeoning scene that it is today. She has been recognized by her peers and NYC Council Member Jimmy Van Bramer for her commitment to community arts. Currently, Lynn continues her role as Strategist for the award winning LIC firm of Amie Gross Architects. Lynn has had the privilege of working with the Astoria Performing Arts Center since its beginning and has been an advisor to APAC’s Executive Board. She has watched it grow from a small venture into one of NYC’s award winning Off-Off-Broadway theatres.

1007162127 (1)Carole Tosiello has been a resident of Astoria for the past thirty-five years and an APAC enthusiast for ten. Her involvement with APAC began soon after she retired from a thirty year career in education. An English teacher in a NYC middle school, Carole found the diverse student population, multilingual and multicultural, both a challenge and a gift. She aimed to bring her love of theater, music and art to her lessons as a path to language learning. Always encouraging her students to explore the countless resources of the city at their doorstep, she practices what she preached to fuel her own spirit. An avid theater-goer, Carole can be found on Broadway and off any day of the week. Museums and concerts, lectures and literary programs are a constant source of inspiration and relaxation. She has traveled extensively in the U.S. and Europe returning often to England, Italy and France to maintain strong ties to friends and family there and research ancestry. Motivated by the endless surprises of this city, and bolstered by the love and support of friends and family here, Carole never tires of returning to her charmed life in New York.
