Woyzeck: Homecoming retells Georg Büchner’s 1837 expressionist masterpiece, setting it in the present day United States against the backdrop of a morally ambiguous foreign war. In this new version, the young soldier Woyzeck has recently returned from the battlefront where, witnessing habitual atrocities, he has been afflicted by post-traumatic stress. While he pursues treatment and strives to keep his job in order to support the mother of his young son, he gradually and tragically becomes unmoored from reality when he discovers her betrayal with his Staff Sergeant.

Woyzeck: Homecoming is slated for production at the Union Theatre (London) in the fall of 2008. In addition, the play received a developmental reading directed by Ian Morgan at the New Group (New York) this past spring (2008).

This program is supported in part by the NYC Department of Cultural Affairs and the Dramatist Guild Fund.
