Casting Breakdown
RUDY: Male, 30s. Handsome, working class, strong build, upstanding and earnest, with a dreamer’s eye. He is a pilot who loves to fly and takes pride in his skill. A family man who believes in the good in people, Rudy is naive in the best sense of the word, but is primed for a wake up call. Sturdy leader, noble, earnest, trustworthy, hardworking, confident in his abilities, dependable. The kind of guy people turn to in times of crisis and who always knows how to take charge.
JUNE: Female, 30s. Rudy’s wife. Attractive, but often tired, both physically and emotionally, June, now expecting her first child, is a woman plagued by the thought that her best years have come and gone. A working class woman who hasn’t left South Florida, she is smart, vulnerable, sensitive woman but life’s ups and downs have made her hard and defensive.
TROUT: Male, 20s. Rudy’s younger brother. Scrappy and raffish, working class man, Trout runs a charter fishing boat - sometimes. Prone to womanizing and resentment toward his older brother, he is a volatile and emotional man-boy with an appealing sense of humor and ruggedness. Has a “devil may care” cool exterior, but has a lot more resentment and violence beneath the surface. He is intensely emotional, unpredictable and physically agile.
MARCY: Female, late 20s. Trout’s girlfriend. Sexy, straightshooter, confident in her body and looks. But not yet fully confident of her role in life, Marcy is actively finding her place in a difficult family, a changing world. Studying to be a teacher, and holding fast to an honest desire to make the world a better place, she has a natural moral center, but can be swayed by dogma, big ideas, and the strong convictions of others. Possesses both girlish innocence and idealism mixed with the tough determination.
