Astoria Performing Arts Center (APAC) seeks Queens-based writers for ASTORIA STORIES
Astoria Performing Arts Center (APAC) seeks writers to participate in a new piece of programming: ASTORIA STORIES, taking place in February 2016.
In celebration of APAC’s 15th Anniversary Season and our namesake neighborhood, ASTORIA STORIES will tell stories about some of Astoria’s most beloved and engaging sites!
For ASTORIA STORIES, 8 writers (or writing teams) will be selected to write 10-minute plays and musicals, to be workshopped, rehearsed, and presented as a single cohesive evening. The production will be presented for 6 performances on dates TBD between February 17th-29th, 2016. ASTORIA STORIES is curated by APAC Artistic Director Dev Bondarin.
HOW TO APPLY:
1) Submit contact information and a bio for each writer.
2) Submit a list of three (3) Astoria cultural sites, locations, or businesses that are of interest to you. For one, please write a short treatment (100 words) on that place and why it is engaging and special to you.
3) For playwrights – include 5-7 sample pages of a short or full length play.
For musical writers – include 2 sample songs in mp3 format or a link to a web page (“downloadable” files are preferred) along with a 5 page scene sample. Work samples that are representative of the collaborative team applying are best. (Individual musical writers who wear multiple hats may also apply.)
Email all application materials as a single PDF file, as well as mp3s or website links (if applicable) to email@example.com by Tuesday December 1st.
