Astoria Performing Arts Center (APAC), Astoria’s premiere theatre organization, now in its 13th year, is seeking a new Executive Director. APAC is a professional theater company that complements award-winning theatrical productions with community programs for children and senior citizens. APAC is also engaged in the development of new works of theatre. APAC is an ambitious and growing company with a record of artistic achievement, organizational balance, and strong relationships within its community. Its annual budget is $237K.
The right candidate will be invested in enriching Astoria, Queens – a culturally dynamic, diverse neighborhood. The ED establishes goals and develops policies, procedures, programs, and budgets that fulfill the mission of the APAC. With the Board of Directors, the ED develops and implements long-term strategic and operating plans; monitors progress against the plan; and ensures that APAC achieves its artistic, financial, and operating goals.
Responsibilities include:
• Fundraising that includes planning and implementing development efforts, securing support from government, individual, corporate, and foundation donors and planning special events, reviewing financial reports in creating funding goals, strategies, and identifying new resources.
• Serving as a member of the Board of Directors and facilitates the Board’s work on behalf of APAC, ensures that the full Board has information needed for oversight and decision-making. Makes recommendations to and assists the Board in fundraising, board governance, board recruitment, outreach, advocacy, strategic partnership building, formulating policies and responsive programming.
• Overseeing day to day organizational operations
• Recruits, motivates, supervises, and evaluates a high caliber artistic and production staff.
• Provides management and oversight to: budgeting and financial management; artistic programming; marketing and public relations; performance/program production and scheduling; and community engagement.
• Promote the name and presence of APAC at external events and functions, build effective alliances within the cultural, business and government communities.
The right candidate will have experience in nonprofit management (experience in the performing arts is strongly preferred) and fundraising. The ED candidate will have strong communication skills (both writing and public speaking). The Executive Director reports to the Board of Directors.
